Marina Wharf boat cruise, Marina Martinique, Jeffreys Bay

Marina Wharf restaurant and boat cruise

A mere 7 minutes (~3.8 km) from Jeffreys Bay is a great place that we highly recommend: the Marina Wharf restaurant. We have gone to the restaurant for years but hadn’t been for quite some time. With the restaurant under new management we thought we would try it again and during this visit, we included a boat cruise around Marina Martinique.

Jeffreys Bay was voted the 2018 Kwela Eastern Cape Town of the Year (see our post on the town here)! An upcoming event in this great coastal town is the World Surf League Corona Open JBay Surfing Competition (see event heats here). The competition forms part of the JBay Winter Fest that runs from 2 July – 17 July. Enjoy an outing to the restaurant while in JBay for the surfing.

We arrived at Marina Martinique and took the road down to Marina Wharf. We decided to have the boat cruise before eating our meal at the restaurant. Already feeling nibbly, we ordered a focaccia and pizza, a bottle of wine and water to have on our boat ride. We also placed our lunch orders so that once we were back from the cruise our meals would be ready shortly after (an example of German-efficiency thinking).

Marina Wharf Boat Cruise

We had booked our cruise for 14:30 and everything was ready for us on time. We stepped onto the boat, and after taking a couple of photos, we covered ourselves with the blankets provided. It was a windy winters day so the blankets were great to have! We headed off and enjoyed the sun and sights. Having the starters and wine on the boat was a fantastic idea – another recommendation to add to your cruise experience. The food was delicious and the wine went down like a treat.

Our boat driver was friendly and told us a bit about the Marina while passing through different sections, like which areas were older and which were newer. The boat speed was perfect to see a lot without greatly invading the privacy of the homeowners along the canals. The homeowners were friendly and waved to us when we passed by. The water in the canals was a brilliant blue and so clear that you could see the bottom. There were boats and stand up paddle boards at the various houses along the canals – must be a great way to spend a summer! A little later, while at the restaurant, we also saw swimmers enjoying the water.

Cost: R100 pp for 1 hour / R50 pp for 30 minutes

Marina Wharf Restaurant

The restaurant location is amazing. You sit almost fully surrounded by water, with the best views of sunsets. We have enjoyed numerous dishes here, ranging from steaks and ribs to seafood. On this particular visit, the family enjoyed ribs, lamb shanks and pork belly – all of which were divine. Our sides included mash, potato fries and sweet potato fries; other options include salad and vegetables. The servers were friendly and the service was outstanding. In terms of drinks, the wine list is great and there is beer on tap. There is also a cocktail menu.

We are sure that you will find something to your liking on the menu. There are also salads, burgers, schnitzels and curry on offer. Because the food is so good, we have to share a few photos from our previous visits:

There is a ‘Doggy Menu’ from which your furry companion can enjoy a meal too.

More about the restaurant

There are inside and outside seating. Part of the outside seating area has protection from wind and rain.

If you are a sports lover, then this is a place for you to enjoy great food and enjoy the game. When we were at the restaurant, there was a projector and screen playing the FIFA World Cup games and the rugby.

In the past, there has been an outdoor cinema screening movies under the stars and close to the fire pit. The restaurant has also hosted birthday parties and wedding receptions.

There is also a great jungle gym for kids to play while waiting for food, as well as a beach area where kids can play and swim safely out of the way of boats on the canals.
