One of the most common topics of conversation amongst South Africans is living overseas. We looked for cheap flights to London and imagined living there. What would we miss about living in South Africa?
The Three Sanctuary Pass: Jukani Wildlife, Monkeyland and Birds of Eden is the best way to learn about wild animals in an environment that protects them. The three sanctuaries in The Crags area form the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA). They are award-winning sanctuaries (winning ‘Best Animal Welfare Initiative’) and should definitely be visited at least once in your life. The sanctuaries promote Responsible Tourism.
Welcome to the Treehouse Cottage in The Crags (Western Cape). The treehouse was a large open planned room with a kitchenette, lounge and dining area, and a bed. The treehouse was the perfect weekend getaway.
After an unforgettable experience at the off the grid tipi in Knysna for my birthday, a romantic weekend at the four-star Thunzi Bush Lodge was a great addition to our birthday month! Thunzi Bush Lodge is a mere 30 minutes from central Port Elizabeth. The experience at the lodge was perfection.
A weekend getaway completely off the grid in the Knysna forest, living in a tipi. A unique and recommended experience!
A mere 7 minutes (~3.8 km) from Jeffreys Bay is a great place that we highly recommend: the Marina Wharf restaurant. Add in a boat cruise and your day will be well spent.
One of the things we love about living in the Eastern Cape (also locally known as ‘the adventure province’) are the numerous game parks scattered through the province. We posted about our day trip to Kragga Kamma Game Park – a beautiful game park just outside Port Elizabeth. This post will take you to the Addo area, which is home to the Addo Elephant National Park. The Park is one of the largest South African National Parks (SANParks), covers five different biomes and hosts the Big 7 – lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, elephant, southern right whale and the great white shark (we saw your Big 5 Kruger and raised you by two 😉 ). The Park includes a Marine Protected Area. Addo sees hundreds of thousands of tourists annually.
When it comes to gifts for birthdays, weddings and other special occasions, more and more of our friends look for experiences over material things. We are no different. We are blessed with incredible friends who gifted us with a nights stay at Umlambo River Lodge. It was a tranquil stay along the Sundays River that allowed a respite from city life and a chance to reconnect with ourselves and each other.
The Greater Addo area is one of the less ‘discovered’ areas of the Eastern Cape. There is a lot on offer (both in activities and panoramas) and there are hidden gems scattered across the region. In our opinion, Umlambo River Lodge is definitely one of the gems of the area.
Port Elizabeth has a brilliant combination of friendly people and amazing markets. One of the best things about our town is that “Support Local” is fully embraced. Here is your alphabetical guide to some of the markets in our beautiful bay.
Kragga Kamma Game Park is about a 30 minute drive from central Port Elizabeth and should be on any visitors sight-seeing list.
