Thee Treehouse is a unique accommodation option in Port Elizabeth that is close to the city but is surrounded by nature.
Here’s the thing about Port Elizabeth: it’s a big-small city. It’s why we, and so many others, love it. You have everything a big city offers close by, beautiful beaches, and nature is on our doorstep.
A cool 20 minutes from Central, we headed to the outskirts of the city and arrived at our accommodation for the weekend – a treehouse. We found Thee Treehouse on Airbnb. Going away doesn’t mean going far. Staying and exploring your own city is just as much of an adventure as going away from it. Thee Treehouse is the perfect example of this.

Walking through the entrance arch and down the tree-lined lane to the house, you can feel the city pressures evaporating. The treehouse has three levels.
1. Social chill and braai area
This area is the first you see as you reach the house. There is a picnic bench for meal times and boardgames, a lounge area to relax at, and a hammock to read and nap in. There is also a braai calling your name at the far end of the area.
From this level, there are stairs going up to the house and stairs going down to the bathroom. Let’s go up first!
2. The Treehouse
Once you reach the top you walk onto the balcony. There are two chairs and a table nestled at the railing encouraging you to sit down and breathe a different air while taking in the view.
Walking into the treehouse you find the lounge and kitchen. There is a comfy sofa facing outwards, a tv, and a well-equipped kitchenette. Everything perfectly fits into the treehouse and radiates warm homely vibes.
There are two ladders that take you up to the loft bedrooms on both sides of the treehouse (one above the entrance doors and one above the kitchenette). The loft rooms sleep two in each, with both having comfy double beds and bookshelves on the wall. The ladders were quite steep and did take some getting used to if we are honest, but it’s part of the charm of the house.
3. The Bathroom
Going back down to the social chill area, and down the next set of stairs, you reach the bathroom. Here you have a toilet, basin, bath, and shower. The one ‘wall’ is just windows. With the privacy, the bush affords this was very cool. The shower has a sliding door opening out to the trees. This may be a small touch the owners did, but it was one of the things we loved most. There is a tree branch through the bathroom which brings the natural rustic vibe.
Yes, going down three levels wasn’t the best at night. More because it was chilly during our stay so leaving the warm bed is never fun. But see it as the quirk of this unique accommodation option in Port Elizabeth.
